Program “Discipline and Journey to the Interior”

The practice of yoga integrates the body with the mind, the mind with the spirit, and in this sense helps us to better understand our own nature and to live in harmony with ourselves and with others.

Many people are only familiar with two aspects of yoga: the practice of asanas and meditation. However, Iyengar yoga is more than just these two aspects. The path of yoga includes other aspects, the so-called Ashtanga yoga (the noble eightfold path), which can help us in daily life. One of these aspects is Tapas.

Tapas is so important to the path of yoga that Patanjali begins Chapter II of the Yoga Sutras with this word. The term tapas derives from the root tap, meaning to burn, to blaze, to shine. As BKS Iyengar says in Light on Yoga, it signifies an ardent effort under all circumstances to achieve a well-defined goal in life. It demands purity, discipline, and detachment.

With Tapas, the practice of yoga is "yoga in action," implying kriya yoga, which allows the spirit to progress and evolve more rapidly towards purity and enlightenment.

Through tapas, the yogi develops physical and mental strength and character. And quoting BKS Iyengar: "he acquires courage, wisdom, integrity, frankness, and simplicity.".

The objective of this three-workshop cycle is to develop, in a disciplined way, the physical work of the different parts of the body and to contribute to all participants developing a mental attitude that allows them to remain calm and balanced in different life situations, whether joyful or sad.

Suitable for Levels 1 and 2

Following the Iyengar method, we personally correct each student, with the aim of promoting the sustained progression of each of your practices:

For beginner students, we suggest easier poses

For more experienced practitioners, we have developed more intense and complex variations.

The workshop will be taught by Professor Elsa Santos (Senior I Certified Iyengar® Teacher)
